Hand carved in Kenya from ebony wood, these wood fertility doll statues are replicas of the Ashanti fertility dolls in Ghana. The Ashanti people of West Africa attribute a special beauty to round faces. Theses statues and or figures became symbols, and were most likely used further to help assist and promote fertility for women during childbirth. Women trying to conceive would wear them throughout their daily routine.
